The Court:
- Ball Badminton is played on a rectangular, flat surface, usually grass, clay, or a hardcourt of concrete, asphalt, or acrylic; occasionally carpet is used for indoor play.
- The court is 23.78 meters (78') long.
- Its width is 8.23 meters (27') for singles matches and 10.97 meters (36') for doubles matches.
- The service line is 6.4 meters (21') from the net.
- The net is 1.55 meters (5'1") high at the edges and 1.524 meters (5') high in the center. The net posts are placed over the doubles sidelines, even when singles is played.
- Racket = tennis racket.
- Ball = tennis ball.
- Matches are best 2-of-3: a player or pair must win two games (of 21 points each or a grand total of 42 points) to win the match.
- Similar to rugby, both teams must wear their dark color uniforms during games unless either 1) the teams share similar colors or 2) if someone is colorblind; If that is the case, the designated home team will wear their dark color uniforms and the away team will wear either 1) their lighter color uniforms or 2) an alternative darker color uniform.
- The players (or teams) start on opposite sides of the net; One player is designated the server, and the opposing player is the receiver.
- The choice to be the first server or receiver in the game and the choice of ends is decided by a toss before the warm-up starts.
- Service alternates point by point between the two players or teams.
- All games go to 21 points, with players scoring a point whenever they win a rally regardless of whether they served.
- All Ball Badminton serves must be hit above waist height and with the racquet shaft pointing upwards.
- A legal return consists of the player or team hitting the ball before it has bounced twice or hit any fixtures except the net, provided that it still falls in the server's court.
- A player or team cannot hit the ball twice in a row.
- The players or teams change ends both at the start of the game and when the leading player's or pair's score reaches 11 points.
